What is a Microneedling?

Microneedling is a non-surgical procedure in which small needles are used to puncture the skin. This process simulates “microtrauma” which signals to the skin to remodel in order to heal. Healing results in collagen production that improves the overall quality of the skin. This technique can be combined with Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) treatment to rejuvenate the skin and improve skin conditions such as acne, stretch marks and scarring.

What is Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)?

Platelet-Rich Plasma is a non-surgical procedure in which plasma, rich in platelets is filtrated from whole blood. A blood draw is performed in clinic and the platelet rich fraction of blood is applied to the desired area. Applications of platelet-rich plasma includes skin rejuvenation, thickening areas of hair loss, improvement of dark pigmentation and acne scars.

Microneedling in Beverly Hills, CA FAQ

While PRP injections alone won’t reduce wrinkles or address other visible signs of aging, PRP injections improve the efficacy of anti-aging treatments like microneedling.

During your consultation, Dr. Davis will determine if microneedling with PRP injections will help you attain your best skin to achieve your aesthetic goals. Depending upon the condition of your skin and your desired results, you may see optimal results from a series of three to five PRP with microneedling treatments, spaced four to six weeks apart.

PRP injections can help boost your microneedling efforts to improve the appearance of:

  • Fine lines and creases
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Redness
  • Acne scars
  • Sun damage
  • Crepey skin
  • Skin laxity
  • Dull skin

As platelet-rich plasma is delivered via injection, you may experience some slight discomfort; however, PRP procedures are typically well-tolerated with minimal pain. If you are concerned about pain, your skin may be treated with a topical numbing cream before your PRP injections.

Be sure to discuss your pain concerns during your consultation with Dr. Davis prior to your microneedling with PRP treatment.

Platelet-rich plasma comes from your own blood. Prior to your treatment, your specialist will draw your blood. Then, your blood will be placed in a centrifuge to separate the platelet-rich plasma from the rest of the blood. This is a ten-to-fifteen-minute process.

Once your PRP has been processed, it will be injected into the treatment area. The whole procedure typically takes between 45 to 60 minutes.

Microneedling cost in Beverly Hills, CA is determined by your individual needs, the number of treatment areas, and the number of sessions necessary to achieve your desired results. Following your consultation, Dr. Davis and her team will provide you with a detailed estimate of your microneedling cost in Beverly Hills.

Microneedling results depend on each individual patient’s response. Typically, microneedling effects last three to five months; however, you may require follow-up treatments twice a year.

Your microneedling schedule will depend on your skin’s current condition and your desired results. Most patients receive optimal results from a series of three to five microneedling with PRP injections spaced four to six weeks apart. However, some patients notice results after just one treatment.

After your microneedling procedure, your skin may be slightly pink—like that of a mild sunburn—for 24 to 48 hours. You may also experience side effects like dryness, tightness, tenderness, and peeling; these effects should subside within five to seven days. It’s essential to keep skin moisturized during this time.

Within a week of your procedure, the surface of your skin will begin to look brighter and refreshed. Microneedling stimulates new collagen growth, so in four to six months after your final treatment, you will see more improvements to your skin’s tone and appearance.

Typically, most patients can resume normal activities immediately following their microneedling procedure, as it requires minimal downtime. However, you should refrain from exercising or other strenuous activities for 24 to 48 hours following your microneedling treatment.

Many patients report experiencing only mild discomfort during a microneedling procedure; however, your skin may be treated with a topical anesthetic to ensure your comfort. If you are concerned about pain, be sure to discuss this issue during your consultation with Dr. Davis.
