Rhinoplasty in Beverly Hills with Dr. Gabrielle B. Davis

Rhinoplasty, or a nose job as it is commonly called, is one of the most common plastic surgeries performed in the United States and globally.  A primary rhinoplasty surgery refers to the initial nose reshaping procedure, while revision rhinoplasty procedures is performed to correct or refine the results of a previous procedure.

Rhinoplasty surgery is designed to intricately restructure the nose in order to bring better balance and proportion to the facial features rather than aiming for perfection, making it one of the most detail-oriented procedures in aesthetic surgery. A rhinoplasty can also serve as a functional rhinoplasty to improve breathing issues by correcting structural problems within the internal nasal anatomy, such as a deviated septum or nasal valve collapse. There are several variations of the procedure, such as ethnic rhinoplasty, which focuses on refining the nose while preserving each patient’s unique ethnic identity and natural facial characteristics.

Dr. Davis can use various nose reshaping surgery techniques to modify the nasal tissues, including the bony or cartilaginous components of the nose. Nose surgery can correct problems such as:

  • Dorsal hump
  • Wide dorsum
  • Bulbous tip
  • Under- or over-rotation of the nasal tip

Am I a Candidate for Cosmetic Rhinoplasty?

Determining if you are a candidate for rhinoplasty begins with scheduling a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon. During this consultation, the surgeon will assess your medical history and facial features, discuss your concerns and goals, and determine if rhinoplasty is the right choice for you.

Generally, ideal candidates for rhinoplasty are individuals who are at least 15 years old, have a fully developed facial structure, and are in good physical and psychological health. It’s also crucial for rhinoplasty candidates to have realistic expectations and aspirations regarding what nasal reshaping can achieve. By consulting with a skilled Beverly Hills rhinoplasty surgeon like Dr. Davis, you can gain a clear understanding of what rhinoplasty can achieve for you.

What Are My Options for Cosmetic Rhinoplasty in Los Angeles?

With Dr. Gabrielle B. Davis, you can have confidence in your options for rhinoplasty. During your consultation, Dr. Davis will physically examine your nose and facial features to determine which procedure is most suitable for your unique situation and goals. Most importantly, Dr. Davis will help you understand what each form of rhinoplasty can and cannot do for you.

Surgical Rhinoplasty

A traditional surgical rhinoplasty may be performed from inside the nose (closed rhinoplasty) or through small incisions at the base of the nose to adjust the placement of bones or cartilage beneath the skin (open rhinoplasty). Depending on an individual’s medical history, aesthetic goals, and current nose structure, the shape of nasal bones or cartilage can be altered in many ways. Nose surgery offers permanent, long-lasting results. Dr. Davis combines functional rhinoplasty and cosmetic rhinoplasty surgery methods to provide optimal results in terms of appearance and function.

In general, good candidates for rhinoplasty include women and men who are in good mental and physical health and want to enhance the appearance of their nose. It is crucial to understand the importance of primary rhinoplasty surgery, as poorly performed initial surgeries by inexperienced surgeons can lead to compromised nasal structure and function, necessitating complex corrective procedures.

All rhinoplasty candidates should:

  • Be non-smokers
  • Live a healthy lifestyle
  • Have completed facial growth
  • Have realistic expectations for rhinoplasty
  • Understand the risks of a surgical procedure

Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty

A non-surgical rhinoplasty, sometimes called liquid rhinoplasty, is a less invasive procedure with minimal downtime that provides temporary results. Non-surgical nose jobs address cosmetic issues with a patient’s nose through the use of dermal fillers. There is no anesthesia with non-surgical rhinoplasty, so there is less risk involved than with traditional surgical rhinoplasty. Results are immediate and typically last between six months and a year.

Non-surgical rhinoplasty can address:

  • Small bumps
  • Asymmetries
  • Contouring issues
  • Droopy tips

However, non-surgical rhinoplasty is not recommended for:

  • Drastic restorations, such as repairing severely crooked or broken noses
  • Repairing breathing issues
  • Those who wear heavy glasses routinely

Ethnic Rhinoplasty

Ethnic rhinoplasty is a specialized approach to nasal reshaping that enhances the appearance of the nose while preserving each patient’s ethnic identity, cultural features, and unique facial characteristics. This technique focuses on refining the nose without erasing the natural traits associates with African American, Middle Eastern, Asian, Hispanic, or other diverse backgrounds. The goal is to create balance and harmony while maintaining authenticity.

Ethnic rhinoplasty can address:

  • Bridge refinement
  • Tip definition
  • Wide or flared nostrils
  • Dorsal height adjustments

However, ethnic rhinoplasty requires specializes expertise when:

  • Correcting significant structural issues
  • Addressing functional breathing problems
  • Revising previous rhinoplasty results

What Can I Expect During A Surgical Rhinoplasty Procedure?

Dr. Davis’s expertise allows her to personalize each rhinoplasty procedure to individual patients’ preferences. While each surgical rhinoplasty procedure will have varying details, there are some general steps you can expect throughout the process:

You will be greeted by the friendly peri-operative team at the clinic and check in. Dr. Davis will evaluate you, perform her surgical markings, and ensure you feel relaxed and comfortable before entering the operating room. Once you are safely sedated with general anesthesia, Dr. Davis will begin your rhinoplasty procedure as determined during your consultation.

Dr. Davis will create incisions that are well-concealed in the columella and inside the nose. The duration of the procedure can range from 3-5 hours, depending on the patient’s nasal anatomy. An external nasal splint and an internal splint or packing will be placed.

The internal nasal splint or packing is typically removed 2 days following surgery, and the external nasal splint is removed on days 5-7. Swelling and bruising are common after this procedure. While it can take several months for the swelling to resolve entirely, most patients can resume their normal activities in two to four weeks following nose job surgery.

Rhinoplasty Recovery Timeline

Recovery after rhinoplasty is a gradual process, with improvements continuing for several months as swelling resolves and the nasal structures settle. While every patient heals differently, most people can expect the following general timeline after a rhinoplasty.

  • First Week— Swelling, congestion, and pressure are all common during this first week. A splint is typically worn for support, and most patients take this week off work or school. Bruising around the eyes begins to fade by day 5 to 7.
  • 2 to 3 Weeks— Noticeable bruising has resolved, and swelling continues to decrease. Many patients feel comfortable returning to most social activities. Light exercise may be allowed depending on the surgeon’s guidance.
  • 4 to 6 Weeks—Most normal activities, including moderate exercise, can be resumed at this time. Your nose will look more refined, though subtle swelling may remain.
  • 3 to 6 months— Swelling continues to diminish, and the nasal tip becomes more defined. Breathing improvements from functional rhinoplasty become more noticeable.
  • 1 Year— Final results are visible as all residual swelling resolves and the nasal tissues fully settle into their new shape.

For several weeks, patients should sleep with their head elevated and avoid blowing their nose. Avoid strenuous exercise and activities to protect the nose from impact. Follow all of Dr. Davis’s post-operative instructions and attend all follow-up appointments to monitor recovery and support optimal healing.

How To Prepare For a Los Angeles Rhinoplasty?[

Preparing for rhinoplasty in Los Angeles begins well before the day of your surgery. Taking the right steps helps ensure a smooth experience, supports optimal healing, and allows Dr. David to create the most natural-looking results. During your consultation, Dr. David will provide personalized instructions based on your health, anatomy, and aesthetic goals.

To prepare for nose surgery, patients are typically advised to:

  • Complete a medical evaluation
  • Avoid certain medications and supplements
  • Stop smoking and vaping
  • Arrange transportation and support
  • Prepare your recovery space
  • Follow pre-operative instructions closely

Thoughtful preparation helps reduce your overall stress, supports a safer surgical experience, and sets the stage for a smooth recovery. With the right guidance of an experienced rhinoplasty surgeon, you can feel confident and ready for your procedure.

How Soon Will I See My Nose Job Results?

The length of rhinoplasty recovery will depend on your procedural plan. In most cases, the nasal splints are removed 5-7 days following surgery. You may experience swelling and bruising for several weeks following surgery.

As the swelling from rhinoplasty can persist for months, it can take up to a year to fully realize your new nasal contour. You will notice gradual changes throughout that time as your nose fully heals.

As with any facial plastic surgery procedure, it is essential to thoroughly follow Dr. Davis’s instructions regarding performing physical activities, cleansing the area, and taking medications to ensure you retain your optimal rhinoplasty results.

FAQs: Rhinoplasty in Los Angeles

Due to the highly unique nature of rhinoplasty, the cost for a nose job is determined by an individual’s needs and the extent of your nose surgery. Dr. Davis will provide an estimate for a more accurate rhinoplasty cost during your consultation.

During your Beverly Hills rhinoplasty procedure, you will be given anesthetics, so you should not feel discomfort. You will be prescribed pain medication to take following the procedure. Most patients do not experience significant pain but more discomfort following nose surgery. Be sure to address your pain concerns with Dr. Davis during your consultation.

Your overall aesthetic goals and the current state of your nose will help Dr. Davis determine which nose surgery would best suit your situation. If you are considering minor aesthetic changes – those that impact nasal shape or nasal tips rather than nasal passages or other functional concerns, Dr. Davis may recommend a non-surgical rhinoplasty achieved with dermal fillers.

It is always best to do as much research as possible before your nose job consultation. This will guide you in asking the right questions during your consultation.

It is best to perform a rhinoplasty when you have completed facial growth, which is usually after 17-22 years of age.

Dr. Davis will focus on your concerns, and tailor your rhinoplasty based on this. The components of your nose that you like and makes you “unique” will be maintained.

Most rhinoplasty surgeries are performed under general anesthesia. In some cases, in which modifications are very minor, the procedure could be performed under twilight anesthesia or local anesthesia.

Most patients are able to return to their normal activities 1 week after nose job surgery. However, during rhinoplasty recovery, we advise refraining from any heavy lifting or strenuous physical activity for 4 weeks. You can resume exercise in 4 weeks after your rhinoplasty surgery.

Functional rhinoplasty procedures can improve breathing in patients with certain conditions such as a deviated septum or a collapsed nasal value.

Some patients with difficulty in nasal breathing may have a septal deviation. In these cases, a septoplasty could be beneficial in improving breathing.  Dr. Davis will perform a nasal exam to determine if a septoplasty is required.

An open rhinoplasty involves incisions that are inside of the nostrils as well as outside along the columella of the nose for full exposure of the nasal cartilage as well as bony elements.  A closed rhinoplasty involves incisions inside of the nostrils to expose isolated areas.

Most revision surgeries are more difficult than primary surgeries due to the development of scar tissue, in addition certain anatomical landmarks could be obscured, making each revision procedure unique to the individual. Revision rhinoplasty is no different. During your rhinoplasty consultation, Dr. Davis will discuss the complexities of your distinct case.
