What is Ethnic Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty (also referred to as a “nose job”) intricately restructures the nose to enhance facial balance and proportions. A rhinoplasty can also serve as a functional procedure to improve breathing issues by correcting structural concerns. An ethnic rhinoplasty has the added task of preserving each patient’s ethnic identity and unique facial characteristics.

Types of ethnic rhinoplasty may include:

  • Asian Rhinoplasty
  • African American Rhinoplasty
  • Persian, Middle Eastern, & Arabic Rhinoplasty
  • Hispanic & Latin Rhinoplasty

Following ethnic rhinoplasty, patients notice benefits such as:

  • Nasal hump or bump removal
  • Tip refinement
  • Damage repair from past nasal trauma or traumatic injury
  • Improved breathing
  • Enhanced ethnic features and appearance
  • Enhanced facial symmetry and balance
  • Structural defect or nasal deficiency repair

Rhinoplasty often serves to address both the appearance and functionality of the nose. An ethnic nose job aims to refine the nasal appearance and function while preserving nasal shape diversity. Dr. Davis strives for beautiful aesthetic results while also ensuring proper nasal structure and function.

What are the Benefits of Ethnic Rhinoplasty?

Creating facial balance and nasal symmetry by enhancing the look of the nose is the goal of any rhinoplasty. However, the added goal of ethnic rhinoplasty is to enhance the beauty of each patient without losing the unique appearance of their ethnic identity. Achieving this can include improving the nose’s appearance by addressing size, shape, or proportions.

Other aspects patients look to correct through rhinoplasty are:

  • Repairing damage from injuries
  • Correcting breathing difficulties
  • Adjusting proportions at the bridge or nostril position
  • Addressing visible humps or depressions

For ideal ethnic rhinoplasty results, you need a skilled ethnic rhinoplasty surgeon who understands the importance of your cultural background and standards of beauty. Dr. Davis is an ethnic rhinoplasty specialist who understands different cultural norms and the scarring or hyperpigmentation risks that come with medium to darker skin.

What Can I Expect During an Ethnic Rhinoplasty Procedure?

Dr. Davis is dedicated to her patients’ outstanding results and will personalize ethnic rhinoplasty procedures to preserve their unique looks. While the details of each surgical plan will vary to some degree, here are some general steps you can expect.

You will be greeted by the friendly peri-operative team at the clinic and check in. Dr. Davis will evaluate you, make surgical markings, and ensure you feel comfortable before entering the operating room. Once you are safely sedated with general anesthesia, Dr. Davis will begin your ethnic rhinoplasty.

Dr. Davis will create well-concealed incisions in the columella and inside the nose. The duration of the procedure can range from 3 to 5 hours, depending on the nasal anatomy. An external nasal splint and an internal splint or packing will be placed.

The internal nasal splint or packing is typically removed 5 days following surgery. The external nasal splint is removed on days 5-7. Swelling and bruising are common after this procedure. While swelling can take several months to resolve, most patients can resume their normal activities 2 to 4 weeks following surgery.

How Soon Will I See Results from My Beverly Hills Ethnic Rhinoplasty?

Typically, ethnic rhinoplasty recovery is dependent upon your procedural plan. The external nasal splints are removed 5-7 days following surgery in most cases. You may experience swelling and bruising for 2 to 3 weeks following surgery.

Swelling can persist for months or even a year. However, you will notice gradual changes throughout that time until your nose fully heals.
