What is a Breast Lift?
A “breast lift” procedure is also called a mastopexy. It is a rejuvenation procedure to elevate the position of the nipple to a more desirable location. As one ages the ligaments in the breast loses integrity causing the breast to “sag”. This can be particularly problematic in the setting of weight fluctuations and after breastfeeding. Lifting the breast repositions the nipple to create a more youthful and aesthetic appearing breast.
What to Expect:
The procedure is performed in the operating room under general anesthesia. Redundant skin is removed to elevate the position of the nipple. The duration of the surgery is 3 hours.
The breasts are wrapped with a soft bandage immediately after surgery. The bandage is maintained until day 3. After day 3 a surgical bra or sports bra can be worn for 3-4 weeks.
