Beverly Hills Labiaplasty with Dr. Gabrielle B. Davis

A labiaplasty is a female genital rejuvenation procedure aimed to reduce excess skin of the labia minora. Women can experience discomfort from the “tugging” of excess skin from activities such as bike riding, running or sexual intercourse. The labia minora is reduced to the level of the hair-bearing portion of the labia or the labia majora. This procedure can also help to correct labia asymmetry or prevent embarrassment of noticeability of the labia when wearing a swimsuit.

What Is Labiaplasty?

Labiaplasty is a delicate surgical procedure designed to reshape and refine the inner folds of redundant tissues surrounding the vaginal opening. Many women seek this procedure because this excess or elongated labia minora tissue is a source of discomfort, irritation, or self-consciousness when they wear swimwear or fitted clothing.

Elongated or enlarged labia minora can occur at any age. Some women notice changes after pregnancy, childbirth, or aging, while others have naturally longer labia due to hereditary factors. While women’s anatomy varies widely, and it is completely normal to have longer or multiple folds of labia minora, some women prefer to surgically correct perceived flaws for a smoother, more discreet and proportionate appearance that improves your comfort during intimate moments.

Labiaplasty Benefits

Women choose labiaplasty for aesthetic and functional reasons, whether as part of a mommy makeover or as a standalone procedure to address protruding or asymmetrical labial folds. The goal is to shorten and reshape the labia minora, so they sit comfortably within the outer folds where pubic hair grows.

Women choose this procedure for various physical and emotional reasons:

  • Reduce irritation and discomfort caused by excess tissue
  • Improve self-esteem during exercise, daily movement, and intimate moments
  • Enhance symmetry and proportions
  • Increase confidence in clothing and swimwear

Who Is a Good Candidate for Beverly Hills Labiaplasty Surgery?

Ideal candidates for this surgery do not smoke, are in good mental and physical health, and have realistic expectations.

During your consultation, Dr. Davis will review your medical history, discuss the anticipated healing timeline, and explain the specifics of your tailored surgical plan. Women of all ages, including those who have not had children, can be excellent candidates for labiaplasty. However, if you plan to have children, we recommend postponing surgery until you have finished adding to your family.

What to Expect Before, During, and After Labiaplasty Surgery

Labiaplasty is a delicate, highly personalized procedure designed to improve your well-being. Having realistic expectations will ensure your satisfaction throughout the process.

Preparing for Your Procedure

Before your scheduled surgery date, Dr. Davis will give you individualized instructions to ensure optimal healing. Most patients must avoid nicotine, pause medications or supplements that increase bleeding risk, and maintain a balanced lifestyle with good hydration, nutrition, and sleep. You’ll also need to fill your prescriptions, arrange transportation to and from surgery, and set up a comfortable resting spot in your home.

Dr. Davis’s Tailored Approach

Dr. Davis’s meticulous techniques create natural-looking aesthetic results. She performs labiaplasty as an outpatient procedure using local anesthesia and conscious sedation, which takes approximately one to two hours. After marking the redundant skin of the labia minora, she’ll carefully trim and reshape the tissue to create a smoother contour while preserving sensitivity. She closes her incisions with dissolvable sutures, allowing the resulting scars to heal discreetly.

Recovery and Healing Timeline

Recovery from labiaplasty is gradual. Knowing what to expect as the weeks unfold will help you feel more confident and prepared. Please avoid putting pressure on your labia – including wearing tampons, having intercourse, and wearing tight-fitting garments – until Dr. Davis confirms your surgical site has fully healed.

  • First few days: Rest is essential. Listen to your body and don’t try to rush through healing. Use cold compresses as directed to ease physical discomfort from swelling, tenderness, and mild bruising in the surgical area. To reduce pain, Dr. Davis will prescribe pain medication or recommend an over the counter option.
  • Week 1: Most women feel comfortable returning to work or light daily activities after taking a week off.
  • Weeks 2-3: Swelling continues to improve. You can resume light exercises such as walking to speed circulation, but wait for Dr. Davis to clear you to do anything more strenuous.
  • Weeks 4-6: Your results will refine as swelling resolves and sensitivity normalizes. At this point, most women can pick up where they left off with their regular routines.

Beverly Hills Labiaplasty Procedure FAQs

On the day of consultation, you will be greeted by our front desk coordinator and patient care coordinator upon entering the clinic. You will be asked to complete a questionnaire regarding your medical history and the reason for the consultation. Dr. Davis will then meet with you in the exam room to discuss the details of the requested surgical procedure. For new consultations, an appointment time of at least 1 hour is allotted to ensure all your questions are answered, and you feel well informed before you leave. Our patient care coordinator, Danna, will then meet with you to discuss logistics and planning for the procedure.

I always advise patients to do as much research as possible prior to the consultation appointment. It will guide you to know what questions to ask regarding the procedure, expectations, and aftercare. It also facilitates a better understanding of the more technical nuances of the surgery.

We ask that you refrain from intercourse at least a week before your procedure.

Ideal candidates for a labiaplasty are women who have a redundant labia minora that is causing discomfort or pain when performing routine activities or during sexual intercourse.

Initially, absorbable sutures will be visible. However, they will slowly dissolve over time. Women will experience swelling and bruising that can take several weeks to resolve. Most patients can return to normal or strenuous exercise 4 weeks after surgery. Women can typically resume sexual intercourse about six weeks post-procedure.

A labiaplasty should not result in decreased sensation with intercourse.

A labiaplasty should not alter the skin around your clitoris. A clitoral hood reduction is a different procedure aimed at altering the skin around your clitoris.

Most women can resume normal exercise 4 weeks after a labiaplasty procedure.

Depending on the type of work, most women can return to work once they have transitioned off any prescribed pain medication, which is typically 2-3 days after surgery.

As labiaplasty is a surgical procedure, it will produce scars. However, the scars from labiaplasty are minimal and will gradually improve with time.

A labiaplasty is a different procedure than vaginal rejuvenation. Labiaplasty specifically addresses excess skin in the labia minora that is causing discomfort to a patient by catching on clothing or during sexual intercourse. Women with redundant labial skin can also experience discomfort from visibility, seeing the labia through clothing. Vaginal rejuvenation typically refers to multiple modalities designed to tighten the vagina, typically after vaginal childbirth.

Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure that can be performed under local anesthesia, conscious sedation (twilight anesthesia) or general anesthesia. You should not experience severe pain or discomfort during your procedure.

You and your partner will likely experience improved comfort with intercourse after a labiaplasty procedure.

You should be evaluated thoroughly to determine if you are a good candidate for the procedure, which is during the consultation appointment. Your cosmetic surgery is then scheduled later after a pre-operative clearance is obtained.

The next step is to schedule your consultation with Dr. Davis.

Dr. Davis is highly skilled in this technique. In addition to being a woman, she understands the sensitive nature of this procedure and will ensure that you feel completely comfortable.

Healing and recovery times vary from patient to patient, but full recovery often takes a few months. Most patients are able to resume normal daily activities well before this point, with the final stages of healing continuing gradually in the background.

Post-operative pain is minimal for most patients. Any discomfort is typically manageable and improves steadily in the days following surgery.

Swelling usually lasts one to two weeks after surgery. This is a normal part of the healing process and gradually subsides as the tissue recovers.

Patients should avoid tampons for four weeks post-surgery to allow the area to heal properly. Your provider will confirm when it’s safe to resume normal use.

An initial follow-up is recommended within one week after surgery. This visit allows your provider to check on healing progress and address any questions or concerns.

Most insurance plans do not cover labiaplasty. Insurers typically classify it as a cosmetic procedure, which means the cost is the patient’s responsibility in the vast majority of cases.

Start by talking with your surgeon’s office and your insurance provider directly. Your surgeon can help document any physical symptoms and discuss whether your specific case and plan might support a claim to have labiaplasty covered by insurance, though there’s no guarantee of approval even with strong documentation.
