Beverly Hills Labiplasty with Dr. Gabrielle B. Davis

A labiaplasty is a female genital rejuvenation procedure aimed to reduce excess skin of the labia minora. Women can experience discomfort from the “tugging” of excess skin from activities such as bike riding, running or sexual intercourse. The labia minora is reduced to the level of the hair-bearing portion of the labia or the labia majora. This procedure can also help to correct labia asymmetry or prevent embarrassment of noticeability of the labia when wearing a swimsuit.

The procedure can be performed under conscious sedation. The redundant skin of the labia minora is marked and removed.  Dissolvable sutures are placed. The duration of the procedure is 1-2 hours.

Aftercare

Tight fitting garments and sexual intercourse should be avoided until complete healing. Pressure should also be avoided in the surgical area. Swelling is common and usually takes 6 weeks to resolve.

Beverly Hills Labiaplasty Procedure FAQs

On the day of consultation, you will be greeted by our front desk coordinator and patient care coordinator upon entering the clinic. You will be asked to complete a questionnaire regarding your medical history and the reason for the consultation. Dr. Davis will then meet with you in the exam room to discuss the details of the requested procedure. For new consultations, an appointment time of at least 1 hour is allotted to ensure all your questions are answered and you feel well informed before you leave. Our patient care coordinator, Danna, will then meet with you to discuss logistics and planning for the procedure.

I always advise patients to do as much research as possible prior to the consultation appointment. It will guide you to know what questions to ask regarding the procedure, expectations, and aftercare. It also facilitates a better understanding of the more technical nuances of the surgery.

We ask that you refrain from sexual intercourse at least a week before your procedure.

Ideal candidates for a labiaplasty are women who have a redundant labia minora that is causing discomfort or pain when performing routine activities or during sexual intercourse.

Initially, absorbable sutures will be visible. However, they will slowly dissolve over time. Women will experience swelling and bruising that can take several weeks to resolve. Most patients can return to normal exercise 4 weeks after surgery. Women can typically resume sexual intercourse 4-6 weeks post-procedure.

A labiaplasty should not result in decreased sensation with intercourse.

A labiaplasty should not alter the skin around your clitoris. A clitoral hood reduction is a different procedure aimed at altering the skin around your clitoris.

Most women can resume normal exercise 4 weeks after a labiaplasty procedure.

Depending on the type of work, most women can return to work once they have transitioned off any prescribed pain medication, which is typically 2-3 days after surgery.

The scars from labiaplasty are minimal and will gradually improve with time.

A labiaplasty is a different procedure than vaginal rejuvenation. Labiaplasty specifically addresses excess skin in the labia minora that is causing discomfort to a patient by catching on clothing or during sexual intercourse. Women with redundant labial skin can also experience discomfort from visibility, seeing the labia through clothing. Vaginal rejuvenation typically refers to multiple modalities aimed to tighten the vagina, typically after vaginal childbirth.

A labiaplasty can be performed under local anesthesia, conscious sedation (twilight anesthesia) or general anesthesia.

You and your partner will likely experience improved comfort with intercourse after a labiaplasty procedure.

You should be evaluated thoroughly to determine if you are a good candidate for the procedure, which is during the consultation appointment. Surgery is then scheduled later after a pre-operative clearance is obtained.

The next step is to schedule your consultation with Dr. Davis.

Dr. Davis is highly skilled in this technique. In addition to being a woman, she understands the sensitive nature of this procedure and will ensure that you feel completely comfortable.
