What is Fat Grafting to Breast?
Fat grafting to the breast is a procedure in which adipose tissue is harvested via liposuction and inserted into the breast. The adipose tissue is typically harvested from the abdominal area or medial thigh. The procedure provides a modest amount of enhancement in patients that do not desire breast implants. The adipose tissue also contains stems cells. These stem cell can secrete growth factors which could improve the overall integrity of the skin and breast tissue. One may require 2-3 sessions to obtain the desired degree of enhancement.
What to Expect:
The procedure is performed in the operating room under general anesthesia. Liposuction is performed to collect the adipose tissue for fat grafting. The fat is subsequently processed and injected into the breast.
The breasts are wrapped with a soft bandage immediately after surgery. The bandage is maintained until day 3. After day 3 a surgical bra or sports bra can be worn for 3-4 weeks.
